Youth Hostel Hangzhou-"Four Eyes" Backpackers/ budget Accommodation, Hang Zhou, China If you are considering a trip to China, be sure to put the city of Hang Zhou on your itinerary, and plan to spend at least three or four days here. Hang Zhou is about 160KM west of Shanghai, the capital of the neighboring Zhejiang province. The city is about 2600 years old, has a population of about 5,000,000(mid-sized by Chiness standards) and is famous for the West Lake ("xihu" in Chinese). West Lake, at least a thousand years old, lies deeply within the consciousness of most Chinese people. They learn about it at school, and it is the inspiration for legends, poetry, art and culture. The lake itself is surrounded by picturesque forested mountains, criss-crossed by walking paths, and adorned with pagodas, temples, tea houses and museums, many of free admission. It is truly part of "the China you have come to see". Hang Zhou is famed also for its silk markets and museum, local cuisine and especially,
a locally-made tea ( Longjin cha). The people of Hang Zhou are justifiably proud of their city. They are decent and hospitable folk, eager to introduce the charms of Hang Zhou, especially to people from overseas. You can get to Hang Zhou easily from Shanghai. There are regular, safe train and bus services, including a recently-opened and regular express train service, modeled on the Japanese bullet-train (though only half as fast) and built with lots of German advice. It takes about 90 minutes from Shanghai South Railway Station to Hang Zhou on this service. When you arrive here, (Youth Hostel Hangzhou)the"Four Eyes Youth Hostel"comes highly recommended. The name sounds a bit clumsy in English, but in Chinese literally means “Four Wells Facing the Four Directions" (i.e. North, South, East and West).
This Hangzhou Youth hostel was opened in March 2007.It was created from a charming traditional wooden farmhouse, beautifully renovated and landscaped by the owner, a gifted and internationally-exhibited local artist, WangTianPeng. Mr Wang’s favorites media is tapestry. His admirable works grace the walls of the Youth Hostel, and are available for sale, (though he will be reluctant to part with them!) "Four Eyes"Youth Hostel Hangzhou features the following: * It is affiliated with YHA International, (though it quite unlike any youth hostel you will have stayed in). Inquiries and booking can therefore be made through the website:www.hostelworld.com * The usual range of YHA services are of course on offer: travel bookings, local tours, washing machines, lots of reliable information and, naturally, the opportunity to meet fascinating people from all over the world, and to swap "travel tales" over a beer, a wine or a cup of tea. The food is fresh, nutritious, tasty and cheap. The vegetarian is especially well-catered for.
* The hostel is quiet, calm and relaxing. It was created to be the perfect"Chinese chill-out"after the inevitable "challenges" of one of china’s oldest and most famous cities. * "Four Eyes" is in a prime location, literally across the road from the famed "West Lake". And not far from the city centre, railway and bus station, shopping centers, markets, bar and nightclubs etc. Hang Zhou Zoo is a useful landmark. * A choice of accommodation is offered, ranging from 3-,6- and 10-bunk dorms to single, twin and double rooms, all very reasonably-priced (among the best value accommodation you will find in China). * All the rooms are comfortable, quiet, clean, airy and well-appointed. The bathrooms, in particular, are a welcome delight, with modern fittings, plenty of hot and cold water and western-style toilets * The staffs here are to be especially to praised. They are all young, enthusiastic and eager to assist. All speak English. welcome to Youth Hostel Hangzhou,Welcome to Youth Hostel Hangzhou 4Eyes!
